Freedom Festival

This weekend I attended the Hull Freedom Festival, a weekend of free live music set up to honour William Wilberforce who was a key player in the abolition of slavery in the British Empire.  The motto of the festival, which has taken place for the last couple of years, is Love music, hate racism which also comes on a range of brightly coloured t-shirts.

Overall I was disappointed by the festival but I am thankful that it has allowed me to discover Patrick Wolf and Florence and the Machine.  I think I enjoyed every song that each artist played on the night but of Patrick Wolf’s songs I think think I like Hard Times and The Libertine best.

I’ve watched the video for Hard Times quite a few times in the past few days.  With Youtube videos I often just switch tabs or minimise and listen to the audio while I’m doing something else but I’ve actually been watching this one.  There are some rather funky negative colour effects and people wearing black outfits so that only the coloured objects they hold show up, allowing for some superhuman feats similar to The Scissor Sisters’ video for She’s My Man.
